Corona Virus Update - Summer 2020

At Top of the Woods we are a low-density site, with 30 camping & glamping pitches spread over a huge 27 acres site, enabling our guests to easily social distance. All our pitches are at least 10 metres apart.

In readiness for opening this summer, we are putting new social distancing measures in place around our shared / communal spaces, so we can keep each other safe on site.

We have always operated a rigorous cleaning programme across our site and accommodation, and we will be increasing our efforts to meet the latest recommendations. We are monitoring the situation closely and will ensure relevant UK/Welsh government recommendations are implemented.

These are some of the measures we are introducing for summer 2020:

  • Reducing capacity on site to enable implementation of new Covid procedures

  • New group glamping social bubble, with private facilities in their own private meadow

  • Check-in time moved back to 15:30, to enable us to complete the new cleaning regime

  • New check-in process to enable social distancing of arriving guests

  • Additional hand sanitisers and cleaning materials provided across the site

  • Increased cleaning of communal facilities

  • Self-serve cool bricks for campers & glampers cool boxes

  • Time slots for showers, with deep cleaning between times

  • Revised onsite activities to enable social distancing

  • Contactless payments

  • Communal weekend food services suspended

Frequently Asked Questions

When will be you be open?

if only we knew! Wales is still in full lock down, and this will next be reviewed again at the end of May. We are closed by order of the Welsh government, as are all other Welsh hospitality businesses. We have not been advised of an opening date, but we are anticipating that some hospitality and tourism businesses will be allowed to open from 4th July, with social distancing measures in place.

Can I book for this summer?

We are currently taking 'reservations' for holidays from the 4th July via telephone (01239 842208) or email (  We will not be asking for payment until we have set an official opening date.

Our official opening date requires:

  • The UK or Welsh Government has a set a date for reopening tourism businesses

  • We can meet the requirements for social distancing and any additional measures required

  • We have a lead time to get the site 100% guest ready!

What happens if I have booked and there is a second wave and\or further lockdown restrictions?

If you are unable to come for your holiday because we are required to close again due to Covid 19, we will issue you with a credit note to the value of your booking, which can be used for a future stay with us.

In all other scenarios, our regular Booking Terms apply.

Will there be onsite activities this summer?

Yes! We are working with our onsite activity providers to modify their sessions to enable social distancing. This will mean reducing capacity and some activities will be run as private sessions for one family\friend group.

Our activity providers are self-employed individuals or local small businesses, so further changes may be announced. See the latest changes here

  • Yoga classes will have a maximum of 4 people

  • Bushcraft will run as a private group session

  • Campfire stories will be in the Dutch Barn, with a maximum of 8 families

  • Secret Waterfall trail is self-guided through the woodland

  • 'Meet the pigs' will be in family\friend groups only

Will there be an onsite food service this summer?

For summer 2020, we will not be running our usual weekend food service (Saturday & Sunday breakfasts, Friday night stew & Saturday Night Barn BBQ).  This is because we are unable to maintain social distancing and cannot recruit the additional crew required while we are closed.

We are working with local pop-up restaurants and street food vendors to explore if they are able to operate onsite this year, and will update you as soon as we know.

We will be offering onsite deliveries from our local quality butcher, Dewi James. Our guests will be able order:

  • BBQ packs

  • Sourdough loaves

  • Bacon, sausages, pies

  • Free range eggs

What extra cleaning measures are you putting in place?

  • Frequent additional cleaning of all high-contact areas & surfaces, using British Standards approved cleaners

  • An increased number of hand-sanitiser stations and hand washing facilities

  • Delaying our check-in time to 15:30, to give staff more time to sanitise accommodation units & communal areas

  • Glamping units quarantined for minimum 24hrs between bookings

  • Bed linen provided with glamping units has been cleaned and prepared in a commercial laundry which fully complies with Covid guidance and regulations. The linen is provided in sealed packs, with 1 pack per bed. Guests will open the linen packs and make up their bed.

  • Pillows, pillow protectors and mattress protectors included with glamping units will be quarantined for a minimum of 48hrs between bookings

  • Staff will wear appropriate PPE while completing cleaning routines

What do i need to do to keep my family, friends and other guests safe while onsite?

Good question! Our team will be doing everything we can to maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene around the site, but ultimately guests are responsible for their own hygiene that of their dependants. The considerate actions of guests will also have a huge impact on the safety of our team and our other guests.

  • Please wash or sanitise hands before using communal facilities

  • Please be extra aware of your children's behaviour. Making friends and having fun is what holidays are for, but for guests' safety this year, families and groups will need to play within their own social bubbles

  • Please ensure children are supervised when using communal facilities, including phone charging station and icebrick freezer. It is imperative that guests are not handling each other's belonging at this time.

  • Please ensure your children do not play in or around the toilet and shower facilities. Games of 'hide & seek' in the toilet and shower cubicles would make it impossible for us to maintain necessary hygiene standards!

What do if i develop Covid symptons during my stay?

If you or others in your booking group develop Covid 19 symptoms during your stay, it wont be safe to continue your stay with us.

You should leave for home immediately and inform us know via telephone (01239 842 208) or email you have had to leave. Please maximise distance from guests and staff and minimise the use our facilities before leaving.

We will provide a credit for any unused nights of your booking.

We will review and update this information regularly based on the latest UK/Welsh government guidelines
