What extras to bring with you on your camping and glamping holiday at Top of the Woods!
About Your Glamping & Camping Stay
There are no games arcades, there's no coin operated anything, and there's no point in bringing your tv, microwave, kettle, toaster or hair straighteners! If you want immaculate grass with rows of regimented marked pitches with electric hook-ups, you'll need to look elsewhere.
If you want to choose where to pitch in meadow fields with stunning views and wildflowers everywhere, bordered by traditional Pembrokeshire hedges and connected by ancient green lane drovers' roads, then you have found our little patch of heaven!
Top Of The Woods is a friendly and sociable site, and the social hub of the site is the courtyard, surrounded by traditional Georgian farm buildings including barns, stables and a carthouse, with the farmhouse at the top, and the communal fire pit at the bottom.
The Dutch barns, dating from the 1950's, offer shade from the sun and the rain and include our covered picnic and games area, where we also serve our farmhouse breakfasts and campfire dinners (see food & drink).
What to bring

Walking boots or trekking trainers \ sandals - the area is a walker's paradise! (See activities)

Bikes, if you can. There's fabulous on & off-road cycling on the doorstep and Top of the Woods has secure bike storage too or you can hire bikes locally.

Swimming gear. You can swim in the secret waterfall in the Fynonne Woods, or check out some of the wild swimming spots are for those who love outdoor swimming

Sun hat and wellies! Top of Woods is the great Welsh outdoors, and even on the sunniest days, the grass can be wet with dew first thing in the morning.

A good torch, plus ideally a head torch. There's minimal site lighting (so you can enjoy the stars, and so the nature, particularly the resident bats, aren't unduly disturbed). Most nights, you get the most amazing views of the moon and the stars!

Binoculars or a telescope, if you have them. There's almost zero light pollution in the area, so you get the most amazing views of the moon and stars at night, plus there's wildlife to spot. Have a look at what you could see in the dark skies when you come camping or glamping on your holiday

Insect repellent and perhaps natural insect repelling candles (e.g. citronella), for sitting out in the evenings without too much attention from mozzies!

Outdoor & indoor games, bring your favourite outdoor games perhaps Kubb or giant twister! or there is also a selection of games you can borrow from reception

Disposable bbqs; they create a lot of unrecyclable mess, leave burnt patches in the grass, and don't even cook very well! We have a selection of quality bbq's for hire, complete with charcoal and tools, if you require.

Speakers, iPod docks etc. Amplified music is strictly prohibited, although acoustic instruments are welcome around the communal campfires in the evenings!

Electrical appliances; there are no electric hook-ups or plug points. You can charge small mobile devices (phones, cameras etc.) in the Dutch Barn, but Penrallt isn't about bringing the TV, microwave and kitchen sink!
A couple of other points to note

Prickly things The site was a working farm so there's still barbed wire fencing in some areas, as well as thorny hedgerows, brambles and nettles etc. We work hard to keep this to a minimum, but please be careful around the field boundaries and in flip-flops or bare feet.

Water & wastewater

Penrallt has spring water with onsite waste water treatment. Please be mindful of your water usage and don’t leave taps running.

The wastewater treatment process can be disrupted by anything the system is not designed for. Please only use natural \ biodegradable toiletries and cleaning products, if in doubt, please ask us!
