2020 has been a challenging year for so many, with on going uncertainty and a fair bit of confusion (or is that just me?!)
With the 5th December being Small Business Saturday UK, I felt inspired to share the love and celebrate our wonderful local, independent small businesses.
Here are some of my favourite small businesses in Pembrokeshire & Ceredigion, who are passionate about their products and have online shops, so you can treat your loved ones (or yourself – go on, you deserve it!) this Christmas.
"When you support a small business you are supporting a dream."
Foodie Delights from Crwst
Starting out as a micro bakery, creating artisan breads & cake creations from home. In 2018 Crwst opened their stunning cafe, deli & bakery in Cardigan town centre (it's a firm favourite with our guests when they come to stay with us).
Osian & Catrin adapted during lockdown to create delicious "bake at home" kits and produce rich, flavoursome goodies like their Welsh Honey Butter, Barti Rum Salted Caramel & are offering a "virtual hug in a hamper" with their Christmas Hampers!
Sea Glass Silver Jewellery from FreshWest Silver
Hannah hand makes all her jewellery in her home studio in West Wales. She uses sea glass, shaped by the waves & washed up on the Pembrokeshire coast. Her beautiful, designed pieces are made from eco recycled sterling silver.
Every piece is a one-off, which I think makes them such a unique and thoughtful gift. I might have to give in to my inner magpie and get a something for myself!
Award Winning Cheeses from Caws Cenarth Cheese
This family run cheese farm doesn't have enough space on its walls for all the awards their artisan cheeses have won! They are located just down the road from Top of the Woods.
One of my favourites cheeses is the Golden Cenarth; a washed-rind cheese with a gorgeously smooth texture (it's a past winner of the Supreme Champion accolade at the British Cheese Awards - Wow!). It tastes amazing baked like a traditional French Camembert. Why not make your Christmas cheese board a Welsh one!?
Pembrokeshire Prints & Canvases from Andrew Warren Photography
Andrew is a multi-award winning photographer, capturing images of iconic landscapes in Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion & Carmarthenshire.
Andrew hosted a landscape photography course right here at Top of the Woods back in 2018, where he showed our guests the best photography spots in Pembrokeshire and taught them how to make the best use of their cameras.
You can purchase high quality prints & canvases of your favourite Pembrokeshire landscapes, I love this one below of the surfers at sunset on Newgale beach - ahh memories of summer!
Pembrokeshire Seaweed Infused Rum from Barti Rum
Named in honour of the notorious Welsh pirate "Barti Ddu", Barti Rum launched in 2017. "An idea captured by Jonathan Williams, seaweed fanatic, founder of The Pembrokeshire Beach Food Company and self confessed dreamer."
Barti is made up of a blend of the finest Caribbean rum, seasoned with vanilla, clove, subtle orange and hand picked laver seaweed from right here on the beautiful Pembrokeshire coast.
As well as bottles of their smooth rum, you can buy tin cup & rum gift packs on their online shop, perfect for a warming Christmas hot toddy!
UnBEElieveble Delights from Cardigan Bay Honey
Cardigan Bay Honey (Mel Bae Ceredigion) is a rural bee farm based in the lower Teifi valley in West Wales. They produce a range of quality honey from native bees, as well as beeswax products such as their Honey Lip Balm & Beeswax Candles.
